Busy busy busy
Well, I had hoped to update a bit more often but I have had non stop issues since the floods hit our town in May 2025.
Several of the cats in the main enclosures ended up with gastro problems due to all the mud and bacteria from the constant rain even before we had the big 1 in 500 year flood. It came pretty close to the bottom enclosure and I had to move cats into the higher up areas. Then came the clean up day after the floods abated.
My vet visits were several times a week with sick cats and also with some of our long term elderly cats coming to the end of their time on this earth with age related illness, cancer and other conditions.
To name two :Bluey our 15yo sanctuary cat had a 7 day stay in the vets with chronic diarrhea and loss of appetite. Beth had a desexing catastrophe which had her needing to be re-sutured due to infection.
To put it mildly it has been a tough few months. Thanks to the many supporters of our rescue we were able to catch up on the vet debt and slowly some of our cat health issues are also being resolved. Fingers crossed.
On the good side we have had quite a few adoptions this year as Purrfect Match becomes more widely known as the only cat specific rescue in the Manning Valley and people travel from as far Sydney and Port Macquarie to adopt our cats.
Cats finding their forever homes were: Ronnie, Callie, Levi, Smirnoff, Iris, Mystic, Logan, Hermoine, Tumnus, Pepper, Serenity, Clover, Fonzie, Stormy, Dusty, Jemima, Neo, Annabelle, Tiffany, Cleo, Angus, Herman, Dolly(late 2024 ?).
This year we sadly said farewell to some of our old long termers (sanctuary cats) as they succumbed to various age related issues, RIP to Pixie (age related issues), Billy (cancer),Possum (organ failure/ liver disease) Clara (cancer) Remy (renal failure), Marni (renal failure), Soren (age related issues).
Also RIP to my own beautiful cat Skye who lost her battle with cancer. She was my soulmate cat and she helped me get through my own cancer battle in 2023. I still miss her tremendously :-( .
Now my other older girl, 18 yo+ Birman Mitsy, is fading fast as her dementia and other age related issues worsen. I don’t expect to have her much longer. I bought her as a tiny kitten 18 years ago before I got into rescue.
Praying the second half of this year is more pleasant for all of us.
Future Plans: 2025 adoption days: Promo adoption day 12/13th August Taree Bunnings as part of their yearly pet promotion event.
October date TBA ? Pets Domain Taree
Addition/replacement/refurbishing cat enclosures. An ongoing project as weather and time takes its toll on our outdoor cat enclosures. A recent addition saw a large donated enclosure being set up and used as as junior cat area. The old dog pen, that housed the ragdoll bunch, roof collapsed due to age and weather so that will eventually be removed and replaced too. Also, other generous donations saw three new single cat enclosures and a 4 cat enclosure being built. Plus plenty of other improvements along the way thanks to the talented and generous cat lovers supporting PM.
Plenty to keep us busy that’s for sure. Thankyou for all your support through these tough times.. “ Onwards and upwards” as they say.. things can only get better from now on eh?….
Thankyou to all our volunteers and donators of food, litter, bedding, kennels and cubbies, toys and everyone that’s a part of our PM “village” What an amazing bunch of people you are.
